Sweet Basil Thai cuisine in SF

2013/02/16

The sushi restaurant and the spaghetti place both had a two hour wait so we tried the new Thai restaurant.

The service was slow but that was OK  There was a lot to talk about. We had the roti – not the best – and the pineapple rice – very good – the pad Thai – the best we had – and the duck curry which was flavorful.

The craft beer is from a batch Chris had made for the Fillmore for live nation.

Last varsity boys match for 2013

2013/02/13

Paul O did a great job in the middle and with two state referees by his side, Bob P and I, the match went smoothly.

Some great no calls by Paul and the ARs both made a call or to to assist.

I thought there should have been one additional caution for a two footed tackle however the boys accepted the call nicely.

Photos of the game are at http://www.sportswurlz.com under “soccer”, the exact url is http://pga.sportswurlz.com/pgs?SERVICE=pga.svc.PGAOneService&UTOK=784134499&wmo=sn&wapp=foto&wpage=album&MARKER_CD=T&GAL_ID=16810

Banana leaf in Milpitas for lunch

2013/02/13

I had the pad Thai at Banana Leaf in Milpitas. It was very good but missing the egg. The roti remains the best.

Stacy D and I had our private EC fair well lunch to go over my final days at electric cloud. With Jonathan gone Stacy has lost a friend in the office. She went over how devastating it is to be fired as she was from her last job.

This is a HS match at a google field

2013/02/11

I did not know there was a HS field at google?

Steve A and Steve G and I had a nice game on a field that was subpar at several levels right outside the google headquarters.

Steve is a low key referee. He had a nice game. Afterwords the coach of the winning team who was obviously a google employee offered the referees and the teams coupons to have dinner in the google cafeteria. Only in the Bay Area! Actually he made the meal before the match. I find that inappropriate at some levels. In this case I do think it was innocent.

None of the other two officials could stay for a google dinner and I had to make it back to watch my favorite tv show.

CNRA training with Brian Hall

2013/02/10

Always take the chance to hear Brian speak. He IS the best at explaining things.

Focus was on tactical fouls. He suckered referees into making officious calls, then explained why the the tactical part did not apply.

He went over a mls match that had a player places a glancing blow of the chest of the player and the chest struck player made a meal of it.

Everyone wanted the mls player sent off. Brian said no, it was a glancing blow with no damage done.

In the end the example was to set up for Brian’s view of the World Cup cleat to the chest. It was clear Brian thought this should be a send off.

There was an impressive batch of young and upcoming referees at the clinic.
